Air

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is less than 30 minutes away from Springfield. Nearly 35 million passengers were served on regional, domestic and international flights in 2008. Currently there are more than 650 daily departures from more than 80 gates. Charlotte Douglas Airport operates under the symbol CLT.

Personal Vehicles

Springfield is close to interstates I-485 and I-77. Access points for each are less than 5 minutes away. In addition, I-485 provides quick and easy access to I-85.

  • I-77 runs north-south, providing an easy route to uptown Charlotte and to Rock Hill.
  • I-485 runs in a circle around the city of Charlotte. The "inner loop" section near Springfield runs to the west, and provides easy access to the airport. The "outer loop" section near Springfield runs east and north, through Matthews, Mint Hill, and finally to the terminus at I-85 near Concord. This route provides easy access to Concord Mills Mall, a regional destination, as well as to Lowe's Motor Speedway.
  • I-85 runs east-west north just of uptown Charlotte. A bit east of town, it turns north and is an easy route to Richmond, Virginia, and other point north.

Secondary roads nearby include Hwy 21/521 and Hwy 49. Both provide alternate routes into Charlotte and Rock Hill.

Public Transportation

The Charlotte metro area is served by the CATS public transportation system. CATS oversees operations of the public buses and the LYNX light rail line, the blue-line south terminal for which is just east in Pineville. CATS also provides special transportation for those who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
